Summerland, California is a small coastal community located just down the coast from Santa Barbara and slightly north-west of Carpinteria. It is a tiny town only comprising 2 square miles of land. There are just a bit over 600 homes, thus not too many homes for sale in Summerland, CA.
In 1883, spiritualist and real estate speculator H.L. Williams founded the town of Summerland. In 1888 he divided his land tract, on a moderately sloping hill facing the ocean, into numerous parcels.
FYI: Spiritualism was the fastest growning religion in the United State during the late 1800’s and Summerland was its West Coast center.
Today, Summerland is home to about 1500 people and a popular tourist stop. The Summerland Beach Cafe is a popular local
place as are the cute shops that dot the main street. Our favorite has to be the exquisite gardens and shop called Sacred Space. All we can say is, go there!
Overlook Park is another popular attraction in Summerland. It has great play areas and beach access too.
