Though not required by California law, The Santa Barbara Group highly recommends home buyers get a termite inspection and report. Since the Santa Barbara area is home to hard to see dry-wood termites, it is wise to bring in a professional.

Pest-Termite Inspection Information – FAQ’s
Q. What kind of termites and pests do we have in the Santa Barbara area?
A. Drywood, also known as swarmers, are the most common termites found in our area. In addition, we often find subterranean termites. Sometimes inspectors find beetles, damp-wood termites, and wood destroying ants.
Q. Can I tell if I have any of these pests are present?
A. Drywood termites are hard to see. It is best to hire a pro who knows the signs. Subterranean termites build mud tubes that are easier to see and other pests may or may not be wood eaters. All in all, it is a good idea to hire a pro.
Q. How much does a pest-termite inspection cost?
A. The price varies by company and home size. In general, we see prices in the $400.00 – $500.00 range.
Q. Who pays for the structural pest control inspection?
A. There is a lot of confusion about this question. It used to be the seller was required to pay for the pest inspection. That is no longer the case and has become one of the many items that are negotiated.
Q. What will I do with my pest-termite inspection report?
A. Joe or Garrett will go over the report with you to discuss options based on what is discovered.
Q. Who should I get to do my inspection?
