Santa Barbara is a sunny and bright city located on the central California coast. The city is known for its gorgeous Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs which are indicative of Santa Barbara’s Spanish colonial roots. With streets dotted with palm trees, stunning blue ocean waters, and the majestic Santa Ynez Mountains serving as Santa Barbara’s picturesque backdrops, one would think that this city is actually a sunny Californian paradise. With its lovely scenery, year-round summery weather, and its never-ending places to travel to, it’s no surprise that one would find themselves wanting to actually relocate to Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara has a large array of different neighborhoods, and each section of the city has its own history, culture, and personality.
Downtown Santa Barbara – Santa Barbara Neighborhood Information
Like many cities in the United States with a downtown, Downtown Santa Barbara serves as the centerpiece of this wonderful city. The highlight of Downtown Santa Barbara is pedestrian-friendly State Street, the backbone of the entire neighborhood. Spanning from Stearns Wharf to Goleta, which is another neighborhood west of Santa Barbara, State Street is connected to a series of one-way roads and avenues and has gained recognition as the most populated part of Santa Barbara.
Downtown Santa Barbara’s most recognizable feature is its red-tiled roofs, and Mediterranean-style white stucco architecture. Paired with the endless opportunities for dining and shopping and the relaxing and romantic atmosphere, Downtown Santa Barbara is the place to live. Downtown, you’ll find a variety of apartments, condos, and single-family homes. Each home in this area is unique in that you won’t find any duplicate designs. Living in this areas means that you’ll have access to Santa Barbara’s vibrant nightlife, which is only enhanced by the fact that Santa Barbara City College is close by. Just north of downtown lies the Riviera, which prides itself as one of Santa Barbara’s most desirable communities. Here, residents live in lovely Spanish-style homes and spend laid-back afternoons basking in the sun.
People who live in this quiet, quaint little neighborhood are provided with stunning views from Santa Barbara’s lively downtown area to the Pacific Ocean. All are visible from the balconies or decks available in almost every home on the Riviera. Carpinteria – Santa Barbara Neighborhood Information
12 miles southeast of Santa Barbara is Carpinteria, a mellow coastal community, where people come to catch some waves and relax. Carpenteria City Beach, the city’s crown jewel, is known as the world’s safest beach and is acknowledged as one of the best places for swimming in the state of California. Here, people are offered views of the long stretches of beach and the Santa Ynez mountains in the background. Residents of Carpinteria are comprised of families, surfers, botanists, and a handful of celebrities, all of whom contribute to Carpinteria’s beach city vibe.

Montecito – Santa Barbara Neighborhood Information
This neighborhood, which is located in the foothills of the Santa Ynez mountains, is saturated with luxurious estates, compounds, and manors. When you arrive in Montecito, expect to see an abundance of gated communities, as the homes here are considered sone of the most lavish and extravagant properties in the USA.
Montecito is home to the crowd that is commonly referred to as the “rich and famous.” CEOs, entrepreneurs, and celebrities are drawn to the privacy that Montecito offers. In addition to finding a few Hollywood stars on the street (and it is important to note here that there is an unspoken rule to not make a fuss should you spot someone famous on the street), you will also see an abundance of lavish resorts, country clubs, schools, and a plethora of high-end shops and top-rated eateries.

The Mesa – Santa Barbara Neighborhood Information
Named for the Spanish word which means “flat-topped table,” the Mesa is a two and a half piece of land that hovers right above the sea. The Mesa is known for its stunning, verdant green spaces, its high-quality education facilities and it’s shopping centers.
In comparison to other neighborhoods in the city, the Mesa seems to have the most diversity. A mixture of young families, long-term residents, professionals and college students all live within the confines of this neighborhood. Because of the nearby Santa Barbara City College, the Mesa has emerged as the youngest residential neighborhood in Santa Barbara. It is also one of the most desirable places to live. The Mesa has a palpable youthful energy as it is common to find surfers, cyclists, joggers, and other active residents going back and forth between the beach and the parks.
