If you know Joe Parker at the Santa Barbara Group, you know he is a curious guy. He’s always learning, searching and exploring. Today he wants to help you learn about Zen Den. What the heck is a Zen Den, you ask?
Joe recently met with Zen Den creator Elisa Garcia to answer the what is a Zen Den question. Below is a short video that will introduce you this unique idea that can add living space to your home. What’s really sweet is it doesn’t take any permits.

What is a Zen Den?
Zen Den is the brainchild of local architect Elisa Garcia. Inspired by her background as an architect and the tiny house movement, Garcia saw a need for small, portable space. Through a lot of research and brainstorming, she pushed forward with the concept of an RV-like product that would be cost-effective and configured for uses not addressed by the traditional travel vehicle market and pleasing to the eye.
Being a certified RV has many advantages: Your Zen Den can be fully or partially off-grid and self-contained, it can be financed as an RV, can be delivered and ready to occupy quickly, and most importantly, no building permit is required to place it on your property. RV certification means it’s safe and roadworthy so you can connect with nature. Yet, unlike most RV’s, it’s Architect-designed and eco-friendly. It’s an RV your neighbors will love.
What Can You Do With A Zen Den?
- A personal sanctuary for yoga, meditation, reading, being creative & simply relaxing
- Guest rooms for lodges, resorts, glamping properties, home and vacation rental owners
- Temporary staff housing
- Corporate housing
- Massage rooms
- Temporary space during construction
- Mobile bars, lounges, dressing rooms & other spaces for outdoor events.
We hope you enjoyed this fun bit of information. If you have questions about Zen Den, real estate in the Santa Barbara area, or need honest, passionate representation when buying or selling a place, give Joe Parker a call or send an email.
